HISTORY
The name Bernardina refers to our mother and grandmother, who was the first person in the family to produce coffee in the 1960s.
We belong to the second and third generation dedicated to the coffee activity.
Finca Bernardina started with the second generation in 1987, managed by Felix and Iluminada Aguilar, with an area planted with 2 hectares of caturra and catuai, and shortly after the farm was expanded.
At present we are 5 people who collaborate on the farm permanently, doing cultural and management work, and temporarily in the harvest period, from 25 to 30 employees.
DESCRIPTION
Our farm is located in the region of Renacimiento, specifically at the buffer zone of La Amistad International Park, it has a natural mountain landscape with native trees and diverse species of birds, mammals and reptiles. We have 18 hectares of which 4 of them are virgin forest reserve, 2 hectares of secondary forest and the rest planted in coffee, fruit trees and timber trees.
The approximate production per year is 200 to 300 qq (100 pounds bags).
The Typica and Bourbon varieties are currently being introduced.

PROCESS
Regarding the processes, we carry out the three types: wash, honey and natural. Drying mostly in the sun on African beds, and in concrete patios.
We are currently starting trials of experimental processes with small amounts of coffee, specifically with the theme of fermentation.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRACTICES
For us, one of the most important ecological practices is the conservation of our soils and we choose to perform undergrowth control without the use of herbicides. Another practice is the planting of native trees as shade in coffee plantations.
In our farm, we not only produce coffee, we also protect our fauna and flora and preserve the virgin forests which contribute to protect the water sources that give life to our environment.

Nestled in the highlands of northwestern Panama, next to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of La Amistad International Park, Café de Eleta stands for flavor, tradition and sustainability.

The Eleta estate employs 50 people year-round and, during the harvest, provides employment for 700 additional workers, many of whom come from indigenous communities around Panama, primarily from the Ngabe-Bugle indigenous jurisdiction.

PRODUCERS

Damarli Estate is a specialty coffee plantation hidden in the mountains of Boquete, Panama. All the coffee at Damarli Estate are hand picked ripe coffee cherries, which are carefully hand processed and evaluated by the owners David Pech and Keith Pech to create exquisite and outstanding coffees. Damarli Estate offers its clients worldwide a wide selection of different varietals through its Varietal Collection and additional coffees through its Tradicional Coffee Label. Furthermore, to support its vision toward sustainable production, Damarli Estate built a completely solar powered coffee laboratory, kitchen, private suites and sunrise veranda. Both Keith and David hope to use the estate to connect with baristas, roasters and coffee enthusiasts to enjoy the natural beauty of the farm, to share outstanding coffees and to strengthen the specialty coffee community.
Damarli Estate was founded in 1995 when David Pech purchased the farm. It was named Damarli after the initial investors: DA – for David, MA – for Manfred (David’s father), R – for Ruth (David’s mother) and LI – for Lia (David’s wife). Initially Lia’s family managed the estate, because the Ruiz family had four generations of experience in growing coffee in Boquete, and because David and Lia lived in the United States. However, the coffee from the estate was never sold under Damarli Estate, but rather was put into one of the Ruiz export coffee blends.
